“More Than Meets the Eye”

INTRODUCTION.

Jesus speaking to His disciples.

Jesus did not even have a place to call His own.

There is more to this life than just what we can see.

The red letters in the Bible, Jesus’s Words, tells us that there is more to life than just what we can see.

Luke 12:22–34 NASB95

22 And He said to His disciples, “For this reason I say to you, do not worry about your life, as to what you will eat; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. 23 “For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. 24 “Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap; they have no storeroom nor barn, and yet God feeds them; how much more valuable you are than the birds! 25 “And which of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life’s span? 26 “If then you cannot do even a very little thing, why do you worry about other matters? 27 “Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; but I tell you, not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. 28 “But if God so clothes the grass in the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much more will He clothe you? You men of little faith! 29 “And do not seek what you will eat and what you will drink, and do not keep worrying. 30 “For all these things the nations of the world eagerly seek; but your Father knows that you need these things. 31 “But seek His kingdom, and these things will be added to you. 32 “Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has chosen gladly to give you the kingdom. 33 “Sell your possessions and give to charity; make yourselves money belts which do not wear out, an unfailing treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near nor moth destroys. 34 “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Jesus used the things around Him to teach and show is power and provisions.

Here Jesus used the nature around Him as He often did.

MESSAGE.

I. The Larder of Life.

Do you want to live on Ramen noodles or steak and potato?

Worry - be unduly concerned.

Raven - large black bird - considered unclean for food.

in a place that needed food Jesus used the Raven to show that even a bird not good for food God takes care of.

1. God’s provisions in nature.

2. Are we not more than nature?

3. What can we do about it?

Matthew 4:4 “4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.’ ””

It is not only wrong to worry, it is infidelity, because worrying means that we do not think that God can look after the practical details of our lives, and it is never anything else that worries us.

II. The Beauty of the Body.

Consider - give careful thought - look at in a reflective manner.

1. The world’s outward appearance.

Clothes

Cars

Prestige

2. The Christian outward appearance.

Reputation.

3. God Knows what you need.

10 I will rejoice greatly in the Lord, My soul will exult in my God; For He has clothed me with garments of salvation, He has wrapped me with a robe of righteousness, As a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

III. The Keys to the Kingdom.

1. Seek God.

2. Do not be afraid.

3. Heavenly Investment.

Seek - devote serious effort to realize ones desires.
